I’m Erin Halla Shakespeare, an artist and yoga teacher, in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Growing up with the forest as my playground, and fantasy stories as my escape, I developed my imagination and inner vision from a young age. My artwork draws from the magic that I’ve always found within nature, and celebrates the body as our home.

I have experienced chronic pain and illness for much of my life, and I alchemize that pain into joy, beauty and celebration within my artwork. My art explores the relationship that we have to our bodies, and how our physicality facilitates our emotional and spiritual experience.

The aim of my artwork is to hold the duality of the pain and suffering that can come with having a body, alongside the joy, pleasure and beauty of the physical experience. I hope you find the magic within your soul, and the home within your body.

“That feeling of beauty, connection and joy that we feel during memorable moments of our life? That spark resides in each and every one of us, at all times. Art should be a reminder of that for you, every time you look at it.”

INSPIRATION

I find inspiration in things that induce wonder and delight. A slow morning with a cup of coffee. The feeling of being present in nature. Memories and fantasies of travel. The way the birds sing outside of my window every day. French jazz vocalists. Silk. Poetry. Fantasy fiction. Homemade meals. And the constant search for a greater sense of freedom in life, and freedom in my body.
